Bravados

Bravados

Bravados are Pete Airey and Andy Hiles, a duo fairly regularly seen at the Prom.

As any of you who have seen Pete and Andy perform, whether at the Prom or elsewhere, will know, they are quite excellent, both as musicians and songwriters. So it will come as no surprise to learn that their debut album is equally impressive.
Weighing in at a massive 69 minutes, and covering fourteen songs, all original and all of the highest possible standard. What we have here is quantity, AND quality in abundance.

As with the live shows the music here is an eclectic mix of acoustic roots rock, from the singer/songwriter mould (some of this stuff would make the likes of Paul Simon envious ) to Manitas de Plata style Flamenco on "Roses From Rosas" and "Fool Moon", not to mention the luscious lounge bar jazz of "Blue Under Blue Skies" or the infectious Zydeco swing of "Johnny Parlez" and "Zydeco Shoes".
So there you have it, probably the best acoustic album you'll find this year, full of variation to keep the listener interested, but never losing its identity.

Pete and Andy are not back in the Prom till the middle of June, not soon enough in my opinion, so in the meantime do yourself a favour and check out "Brave New Year". No need to wait till June, you can buy it from the Prom right now, just ask a member of staff, hand over your cash and walk home with the best buy you made all day.
