Brendan Monaghan & Niall McClean

Brendan Monaghan & Niall McClean

If you missed Brendan and Niall last time they were in this neck of the woods, now's your chance to put that mishap right, for you missed a treat. Brendan Monaghan is a singer songwriter from Co. Down, Ireland. He also fronts the "Cattle Company" a band that has performed in many countries around the world. The band has been in existence since the early '90's and have steadily built a very strong reputation with their brand of progressive country music. Since the release of their very successful debut album "Hero" the band have gone from strength to strength with their writing and recording, and also with their live performances, both at home and abroad.

Brendan has written songs for several independent artists in Europe and in America, and his recently released solo album .Precious Time. has two songs "Sister's Lament" and "Johnny Got Married" that were recorded in America and released on US label, UAR Records. This album has a more acoustic 'Celtic' feel to it than work he does with Cattle Company.

Whether with the band or his .solo. work, live or recorded, the presence of the award winning fiddle player Niall McClean is much in evidence, and it.s not hard to see why, Niall is an outstanding player steeped in the musical traditions of his homeland with the ability to incorporate those structures, when required, into more contemporary styles with ease and grace.

Brendan and Niall will be joined tonight by The Whole Band.s Chrissie Hammonds on backing vocals.

The band's music can be frequently heard on many radio stations across the world and they have also appeared on several top television shows. In 1995 the "Cattle Company" were chosen as the European Country Music Association's best European independent group. After the release of "Hero" there soon followed the release of two live tracks, "Let Me In" and "Darkest Hour" which were featured on the very successful Irish hit album "Alive in Belfast". (Warehouse Sessions). The "Cattle Company's" release "Love to be loved" in 1998 received excellent feedback through the press and radio, and shows evidence of the band maintaining the very high standard which they have set themselves before committing their brand of music to the public.

Brendan has written songs for several independent artists in Europe and in America, and has been working on his first solo album, which should just about be completed. The new album, which Brendan has been working on and off for a few years, having two songs "Sister's Lament" and "Johnny Got Married" recorded in America and released on US label, UAR Records, will have a more acoustic 'Celtic' feel to it. With other musical commitments it has taken until recently to finally get his solo material up and running again, but Brendan hopes to have the solo album out on a new label in the coming weeks (hopefully by the time he reaches The Prom) and then promote this new material with performances both at home and abroad.

At the 1999 "North America CMA International" awards in Gatlinburg, Tennessee the "Cattle Company" received two awards one for the best "new country" international album for "Love to be loved" and the other was a songwriting award for Brendan.
In the year 2000 the "Cattle Company" put together their latest album "Big Town After Dark", performed throughout Europe, including our own, excellent "Americana International" festival, and "Music Of The Rivers" in Jacksonville, USA.

In early 2001 the band signed to American independent label "USOFT Records" who are based in Arlington Texas. "USOFT Records" will be distributing and promoting the "Cattle Company's" album " Big Town After Dark " worldwide. The album captures the band at its best, with the vibrant, energetic sound they always achieve with their live sets.

In December 2001 Brendan performed a new song "I Am Weak" on national British television, and the phone's still ringing.

Brendan will be performing in this area with Fiddle player Niall McClean, and rumour has it that they will be joined by Steve Payne on guitar and Chrissie Hammonds of 'The Whole Band' on backing vocals. RECOMMENDED.
