In 1998 singer/songwriter Nigel Clark of Dodgy unexpectedly decided to quit the band that he had helped achieve platinum sales and critical acclaim. The roots of Dodgy can be traced to mid-80s Birmingham, home to Clark and drummer Mathew Priest before they relocated to London.
Guitarist Andy Miller answered the advert in Loot that simply read: "Wanted: Jimi Hendrix". They spent a year practicing the three-part harmonies that would become their trademark. The Dodgy Album was filled with buoyant 60s-styled pop tunes. 1994 was the band's breakthrough year, with Homegrown producing two memorable singles in "Staying Out For The Summer" (a hit when reissued in 1995) and "So Let Me Go Far". Free Peace Sweet was a platinum smash containing some classic songs. "In A Room", .If You.re Thinking Of Me., they were the ultimate festival band and the first in the recent trend of .name. headline acts at the Bristol Ashton Court Festival. Platinum sales, a dozen hit singles and World tours including three visits to Japan...and then Nigel jumped ship and has seldom been seen since, until now. Nigel moved into his new Hijack Studios in Redditch with the aims of offering up and coming bands on a tight budget a place to record their songs and to re-record his album. Now for the first time in six years, Nigel is back out on the road spreading the word in the best way possible, playing live.
The Band are: Rett Butler Guitar, Dom James Drums, James Rae Bass and Dan on Keyboards. Nigel.s new album is due for release in the spring.
