Fat Man Swings

Fat Man Swings

They're back - and this time they can hardly believe it themselves. After almost three years of intensive searching, leading Fat Man Chris Bennett ('El Gordo') has finally found eight musicians with matching ties - all the more shocking since they were the only eight musicians he could find with any ties whatsoever.

The original Fat Men blazed their swingeroony groove trail across the South West of England for four hectic years of unforgettably jam-packed dance-hall boogie nights until their sheer combined weight brought them slowly back to earth and to a sad but understandable pause for breath. Now the three original surviving members - Chris himself (vocals) plus Tim 'The Slab' Mawditt (bass) and Rob 'You Hum It, I'll Laugh' Scott (sax) - have finally come off the oxygen and, responding to the overwhelming public pressure from deprived ex-fans, press-ganged some of Bristol's finest musicians into getting the show back onto the road - and while they're about it having a bloody good laugh.

The new line up includes on drums Simon Gore - the drummer drummers come to watch; on alto Keith Morgan - renowned for the depth and sophistication of his understanding of the art of the dirty joke and also his sax-playing; Nick Attwood playing the meanest trombone you'll hear this side of Swindon; Clive 'I Wish My Mother Could Be Here' Hughes, the resident shining wit of a guitarist, and last and quite possibly least the ubiquitous Charlie 'Which One's This?' Rose trying to keep up on the piano. Between them, believe me, they cook. If you like swing, if you like jive, if you like jump-blues and boogie, you will definitely love Fat Man Swings.
